First Contact Physiotherapy (FCP)
A musculoskeletal (MSK) FCP service is provided by highly trained physiotherapists who are the first point of contact for patients. They provide new expertise in general practice and provide patients with faster access to the right care.
MSK FCPs have extensive experience in the assessment and management of musculoskeletal conditions and can see MSK patients without the need for a GP appointment. They are qualified autonomous clinical practitioners who are able to assess, diagnose, treat and discharge a person without a medical referral – where appropriate. They can also refer onto specialist services if required.
You can book to see the MSK FCP in the same way they would access a GP appointment.
Social Prescribing
Social prescribers work together with GP practices to ensure that wider needs are addressed, Social Prescribing can be the bridge between a GP and all the non-healthcare services available in the community. It seeks to address people’s needs across a number of areas such as physical activity, diet and nutrition, mental health, and social support.
Social Prescribing works effectively within the community, helping provide support to community groups or by hosting coffee mornings, green space schemes, emotional support groups, they can also carry out home visits for patients who struggle to come to the surgery. It can meet many different types of non-clinical needs, ranging from support and advice for individuals experiencing:
- Debt
- Unemployment
- Housing or mobility issues
- One or more long-term conditions
- Who need support with their mental health
- Who are lonely or isolated
- Who have complex social needs which affect their wellbeing
Non-urgent advice: Please note
Social Prescribers cannot prescribe medicine, they cannot help with complex mental health issues, or diagnose health issues.

ARRS Pharmacy
Clinical pharmacists are a patient-facing role as part of the multidisciplinary team. They can clinically assess and treat patients.
Clinical pharmacists take responsibility for medication reviews to help manage patients with multiple medication use as well as managing patients with chronic diseases.
Pharmacy technicians complement the more clinical work of clinical pharmacists. They apply their knowledge to tasks such as audits, discharge management and prescription issuing.
